No: 218, 5 July 2017,Press Release Regarding the Loss of Lives of the Azerbaijani Civillians as a Result of the Attack of Armenian Armed Forces

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 06.07.2017

We strongly condemn the attack to the Alkhanli village of Fizuli region of Azerbaijan by the armed forces of Armenia with mortars and heavy grenade launchers on July 4, around 20.40 hrs that claimed the lives of a 50 years old woman and her 2 years old grandchild. We wish God's mercy on the fellow Azerbaijani citizens, perseverance to their relatives and to the Azerbaijani nation and a speedy recovery to another Azerbaijani citizen who was injured by this heinous attack.

This despicable atrocity clearly demonstrated that the provocations which Armenia follows at the border regions with heavy weaponry, while occupying one-fifth of Azerbaijan's territory, target Azerbaijani civilian population, particularly women and children in violation of international law and humanitarian values. International community should acknowledge the fact that this deliberate and systematic policy pursued by Armenia towards fuelling violence is the main obstacle to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and put pressure on Armenia to withdraw its troops from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

As a member of the OSCE Minsk Group, established for the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkey will continue to support the efforts to reach a just and lasting solution within the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
