Press Release Regarding the Participation of H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey, to the Meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe

H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will participate in the meeting of the Ministers’ Deputies of the Council of Europe on 7 September 2016 in Strasbourg upon the invitation of the Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe H.E. Marina Kuljurand, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia. During the meeting to be held at ministerial level from the member states, there will be an exchange of views with Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu regarding the foiled terrorist coup attempt on 15 July 2016 and the developments in the aftermath.

In the face of the heinous terrorist coup attempt against our democracy, constitutional order and fundamental rights and freedoms of our citizens, the Council of Europe has stood by the Republic of Turkey from the start, and the highest representatives of the Council of Europe- Secretary General, Chair of the Committee of Ministers and PACE President- paid a visit to show solidarity with our country.

On the occasion of the meeting of 7 September, H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu will address the Council of Europe as the first European institution after the terrorist coup attempt.

Turkey, as the founding member of the Council of Europe, will maintain its high level political and technical cooperation with the Council of Europe in the upcoming period as well.
