Press Release Regarding the Dialogue Meeting Hosted by UNSMIL

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 15.01.2015

No: 17, 15 January 2015

We welcome the inclusive political dialogue meeting held in Geneva yesterday (January 14th) by the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) with the purpose of finding a solution to the crisis in Libya.

The only way out of the crisis in Libya is through inclusive political dialogue and national reconciliation. Success can be achieved in the dialogue process if parties uphold the interests of Libya above all other political concerns and demonstrate their will to live together in peace. It will also be of crucial importance to maintain the dialogue process in a manner to allow the representation of all Libyans. With this understanding, we believe that our Libyan brothers will act with the understanding that the establishment of a constitutional democracy requires patience, perseverance, tolerance and determination and that all invited representatives will contribute to the process.

In this sensitive period, the cessation of hostilities, air attacks and foreign interferences that may disrupt the political dialogue process, throughout the country is of utmost importance. In this line, resolute and strong reaction from the international community against all such acts will be vital to manage the process efficiently.

We congratulate Mr. Bernardino Leon, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Libya and the staff of UNSMIL, who have exerted great efforts to launch the political dialogue, We wish success to our Libyan brothers and sisters participating in the political dialogue process.

Turkey will continue to support the dialogue process aiming at ensuring peace and stability in Libya, and stand by the brotherly people of Libya.
