Press Release Regarding the Visit of Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO

Ms. Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) of which Turkey is a founding member, will pay a bilateral official visit to Turkey on 5-7 January 2015 upon the invitation of H.E.Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey.

Director-General Bokova will be received by President H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister H.E.Ahmet Davutoğlu, and she will come together with Foreign Minister H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Minister of National Education H.E. Nabi Avcı and Minister of Culture and Tourism H.E. Ömer Çelik. Ms. Bokova will also deliver a speech at the Seventh Annual Ambassadors Conference which will be held on 5-9 January 2015.

In the framework of her visit, Director-General Bokova will hold talks with the President of Turkish National Commission for UNESCO, civil society representatives, business circles sponsoring cultural and educational projects, and academic circles exerting efforts to instill the UNESCO ideals in Turkey and our region.

As one of the founding members of UNESCO, Turkey renders qualified intellectual contribution to the work of the Organization in the context of deepening the alliance of civilizations through intercultural and interreligious dialogue as well as creating a global culture of peace. We are glad to host Director-General Bokova in Turkey, who will pay her first bilateral official visit in 2015, which is UNESCO's 70th anniversary, to our country.
